In
India about 215 steam locomotives await the axe. They rest in "Graveyards"
all over the country.
Tinsukhia in the North Frontier Railway zone of the IR was a major steam
junction with a yard and repair
facilities. Steam at the Tinsukhia section ended in
July 1997 after which the meter guage YPs and YGs were
dumped in the yard.

North Eastern region of India was run by steam traction till 1997. There are
locomotives of both 5' 6" BG and 1000mm MG variety at sheds in Dibrugarh, Mariani,
Badarpur in Assam.
